Care and Maintenance
Regular care helps keep Jaime Alexander furniture safe and functional throughout its lifetime.
For care and cleaning of wood it is recommended to use a natural wood soap. There are many different brands and variations. For oiling timber we recommend linseed oil. Linseed oil is a natural plant oil and very gentle yet effective for wood preservation.
Cleaning
Regular care and maintenance is paramount to ensuring your Jaime Alexander furniture is kept safe and functional throughout its lifetime. A well-maintained surface is simpler and easier to clean.
When cleaning timber surfaces, use natural wood soap and follow the manufacturer’s mixing ratio. Apply the soap directly to the wood and work it in gently with a sponge, following the direction of the grain until dirt and grime are removed. Leave the wood to dry for approximately 24 hours. Remove splinters or scuffs with sandpaper if necessary; typically 240–400 grit is sufficient.
Minor Scratches and Moisture Stains
For scratches or moisture stains, clean the affected area with warm water. Use the rough side of a sponge and let it dry completely before applying oil.
When dry, apply linseed oil to the cleaned area with the rough side of a clean sponge. Scrub along the grain until the stain is no longer visible. Remove redundant oil with a clean, dry cotton cloth no later than five minutes after application. Let it dry for at least 24 hours, then polish the area with a fibre cloth.
Application of Oil
Stir the oil thoroughly before use. Apply an even, thin coat with a sponge or brush. Treat end-grain wood first. Apply only in dry weather and avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures.
Final Polishing
If necessary, wipe off excess oil with clean cotton cloths no later than five minutes after application. It is important to remove excess oil from joints and grooves. Repeat the process if the wood does not appear saturated.
When the wood is dry, it may be polished with a polishing pad or machine to ensure an extra hard-wearing surface. The oil takes 24 to 48 hours to harden completely, depending on weather conditions and outdoor temperature.
